Timeline

This timeline consists of various key events and milestones that led to the establishment of the Asian American Studies and Asian Diaspora Studies at Emory. In addition to documenting the work of various faculty, staff, and students who advocated for Asian American Studies and institutional support for Asian American students, it recovers various events that shaped the lives of Asian and Asian American students at the institution.

The timeline is the culmination of a multi-year research project led by Chris Suh.

It was made possible by the superb assistance of Yaza Sarieh ’20, Alyson Lo ’21, Alice Zheng ’21, Jin Namgoong ’27, and Hannah Lo ’27, who helped him recover and write about the place of Asian American students, staff, and faculty in Emory’s institutional history.
