Donna Wong, who arrived at Emory from the University of Oregon in 1999, became the director of OMPS. Previously, Wong had served as academic support service coordinator and associate director of the OMPS. An alumna of UCLA, she also taught a class titled “The Asian American Experience” at Emory.

Wong played a critical role in reshaping OMPS. In 2007, OMPS relocated from the Woodruff Residential Center to the Dobbs University Center, from the margins of the campus to the busiest part of undergraduate life. In a 2009 interview with the Wheel, she described the goal of her office as promoting “cross-cultural interaction and cross-cultural competency.” She highlighted the Crossroads program, established in response to students’ concerns about the lack of interaction among different racial groups.

Wong retired in 2012, and in 2017, OMPS was renamed the Office for Racial and Cultural Engagement (RACE).
